Mcmurray makes Cranleigh seem easy
Forestland Wheelers Cycling Club member Jim McMurray lived up to his reputation as being the best on tour after winning first overall, first in age group and fourth fastest time in elite in the Cranleigh K2 recently.
The 192km ride, which saw around 605 riders compete, was held at the end of October and took riders from Tairua, Coromandel, Thames and Whitianga.
Mr McMurray said his results were rewarding considering how difficult the race was. ‘‘The first half of the race pace was steady only (as the race is so long) then from Thames onwards the pace went on. Myself and two others broke clear from the lead group of 30 riders. On the Kope climb ( 13km) we made a good break of two minutes and we worked hard to the finish, approximately 30km, and took the lead out to 3 minutes, then finished first after the sprint.’’
