Sucking it up

South Waikato News - - OPINION -

I read with interest the S.W.D.C Bulletin regarding wastewater plant improvement. In writing this letter in my house in Harris Downs, with all my windows closed due to the stench of the sewage from the same plant. I see this improvement is to improve the sludge for transport to our landfill.

This to me seems another load of said sludge from an incompetent council who in their wisdom are going to allow 12,000 tons of the same sewage from Hamilton to Tokoroa, to mix with pulp to make compost. Aren’t biosolids and compost hazardous as much as smoke from my fire?

Why not transfer pulp to Hamilton less hazardous to our community, safer and less chance of accidents and spillage?

Why doesn’t the council send our sewage to where they intend to make compost instead of our landfill?

Don’t we have enough sewage from this council without importing another 12,000 tons. B Morgan
