Reward for heroic efforts
Putaruru St Johns’ heroic efforts of a year ago have been rewarded again.
The unit was recently donated $1000 in thanks for their efforts in helping to rescue Tokoroa sisters Jade and Renee Beale and their friend Arianna Ashworth after the trio’s vehicle was hit by a passing motorist who was texting while driving.
‘‘Our cousin Sian Vondervoort entered a Girlfriend magazine competition a few months ago and it was based on campaigning about something you are passionate about. She had to design a campaign idea; she used our story and the message texting and driving isn’t safe and made a poster,’’ Jade said.
‘‘ She was able to win $1000 for herself and $1000 to go to a charity of her choice. Readers had to vote on which campaign they felt was worthy of the $1000.’’
Jade said her cousin wanted to assist the campaign and support the emergency services.
‘‘Because of the amazing work they do she donated that $1000 to St John, asking us to present it to them on behalf of our campaign.
‘‘We went over to the Putaruru St John as the ambulance officer first to our scene was from [there]. They are fundraising for a new building so we thought the money would help with that,’’ Jade said.
