Great attitude a winner

South Waikato News - - NEWS -

Foundation for Youth Development ( FYD) Waikato, ANZ Bank, and South Waikato News are proud to award Tave Tuakana- Natua of Tokoroa Intermediate School in Tokoroa as South Waikato’s Positive YoungStar for December 2012. Positive YoungStar recipients are positive role models in their school who show values of respect, integrity and resilience.

Values of resilience, respect and integrity have helped lead 13- year- old Tave TuakanaNatua to great success in his rugby career, playing a pivotal role in the Roller Mills Trophy winning Waikato team.

Tave, a student at Tokoroa Intermediate, is this month’s Positive YoungStar showing that strong values can help you succeed in all aspects of life. Tokoroa Intermediate Principal Russell Thompson, who nominated Tave for the award, describes a young role model who is humble in his success and kind towards others.

‘‘Tave is a positive role model, he works positively and kindly with other students, being one of the first to check in on anyone who looks like they are unhappy, hurt or left-out. He is a great example of a young person who can overcome peer pressure and make the right choices for him and others around him.

‘‘His recent achievement in rugby, I feel, is a result of all of Tave’s great qualities of respect, honesty and resilience coming together’’ adds Mr Thompson.

‘‘I feel proud to have been in

Tave Tuakana-Natua. the team’’ says Tave ‘‘But I try to be humble; Mum and Dad taught me that, always be humble.’’

And it is his parents that Tave looks to as his own positive role models describing the qualities he admires in them as helping others, being true to themselves, being humble and thinking of others.

A resilient attitude is clearly evident when speaking to Tave. His dedication and commitment to trials and training for the Waikato team earned him his place, attending training even when unwell so that he could be there to support his team mates and listen to the coaches training advice.

Tave is the eldest child with a younger brother at Tokoroa Intermediate and a younger sister attending Strathmore School. Next year Tave will be attending Tokoroa High School and is looking forward to being part of the FYD Stars programme run in the school.

Tave is keen to continue with his rugby and one day have a shot at playing for the All Blacks, and would also like to become a doctor.

Students aged 5-12 years can be nominated for the Positive YoungStar Award by their teachers.
