Dionne’s big day
DOUBLE MEDALLIST: Tokoroa High School student Dionne Treadaway competed at this year’s New Zealand secondary school championships in Dunedin.
Dionne contested the junior girls 100 metres and 200m, each having a heat, semifinal and final. Dionne took a bronze medal in the 100m with a time of 12.46sec in a dead heat with the second-placed runner with the same time. In the 200m Dionne claimed the silver in an impressive time of 25.36sec. Both finals were personal bests. Coach Chris Williams said Dionne showed the true tenacity that was inherent in all who come from Tokoroa. Dionne’s results earned the attention of the national selectors who made Dionne part of the 30-strong team for the Sydney Youth Olympics in January.
