Film crew makes cut

South Waikato News - - SPORT -

In less than a year a film crew from Putaruru College has cemented itself as one of the brightest in the field.

The group, led by teacher Lanny Joe, won Best Cast and Best Community Involvement at the National SADD film awards in Auckland last Monday.

‘‘All of the award winners had their own special awards ceremony,’’ Mr Joe said.

Crew member Luke Maddren said of their win: ‘‘It is pretty amazing.’’

Jeff Marshall said: ‘‘ It is nice to be recognised by people. I know that I have put in 100 hours into this. It is definitely worth it, it is really nice.’’

The feeling was also shared by student Melissa Ward, who said: ‘‘Because we have done this as a group you make friends with people who you have never talked to. It’s not just about the fact that we have won these awards, it is also that there is now another activity in the school, like we have never had this film department.

‘‘None of us knew how to work a camera. We have learnt everything,’’ she said.

The school previously won the Fair Go Ad Awards secondary schools section. Putaruru College’s awardwinning film crew is celebrating winning Best Cast and Best Community Involvement at Turners Student Short Film competition 2012.
