Council disputes Jimbo case cost

South Waikato News - - FRONT PAGE -

South Waikato District Council leadership team has released a statement saying the cost of the Jimbo case is $ 76,000, not $94,000.

This comes after an email sent by Deputy Jenny Shattock last year revealed a deep rift between council staff and elected members, and a $20,000 jump in the costs associated with the Jimbo case.

‘‘Why now after $94,000 and so far down the track . . . are we being advised to drop this case,’’ Mrs Shattock wrote.

The statement said ‘‘the actual costs as currently known is around $76,000 allowing for legal fees yet to be received. [The] council had discussed what further costs could be forthcoming if the council lost and was required to meet costs, or the council won but the case was appealed. It was considered that a total cost of around $94,000 was possible.’’
