The holiday season was relativity quiet for South Waikato SPCA, says shelter manager and inspector Lorna Hutchinson.
‘‘It was actually a quiet period compared with others,’’ Mrs Hutchinson said in terms of animal cruelty incidents.
However, the unit responded to a case where a dog’s safety and wellbeing was being jeopardised.
A dog was seriously underweight and the owner ‘‘did not know that what he was doing was wrong and he owned up to that’’.
He was willing to learn and Mrs Hutchinson said her team will monitor their progress.
