Scouts out in force

New Zealand Rugby League is on the hunt for young tal­ent in Toko­roa.

The na­tional sports body will hold a se­ries of train­ing camps at the Toko­roa Me­mo­rial Sports­ground this year, NZRL Up­per Cen­tral Zone gen­eral man­ager Sash Stosic con­firmed last week.

The camps will be held on April 26-28 and June 28-30.

‘‘A trial for each age group will be played at the sec­ond camp for the pur­pose of se­lect­ing a 25-man squad for the WaiCoa Bays 15 and 17-year Colts squad who will play in the NZRL Na­tional Com­pe­ti­tion this year,’’ Mr Stosic said.

A third camp will be held on Au­gust 16-18, and will be used to fur­ther help those se­lected for the WaiCoa Bay squad.

The camps are aimed at play­ers aged 14 and 17-years-old and those in­ter­ested must be reg­is­tered with a Rugby League Club within the bound­aries of the Up­per Cen­tral Zone, he said.

All reg­is­tra­tion must be made be­fore March 1.

‘‘Par­tic­i­pants must make a full com­mit­ment to at­tend­ing all camps and train­ings.’’

Mr Stosic added that dur­ing each camp the young­sters will re­ceive goal set­ting and self- as­sess­ment, lead­er­ship and val­ues work­shops, spe­cialised skills devel­op­ment, phys­i­cal con­di­tion­ing and train­ing pro­gramme and nutri­tion in­jury man­age­ment ad­vice.
