Scouts out in force
New Zealand Rugby League is on the hunt for young talent in Tokoroa.
The national sports body will hold a series of training camps at the Tokoroa Memorial Sportsground this year, NZRL Upper Central Zone general manager Sash Stosic confirmed last week.
The camps will be held on April 26-28 and June 28-30.
‘‘A trial for each age group will be played at the second camp for the purpose of selecting a 25-man squad for the WaiCoa Bays 15 and 17-year Colts squad who will play in the NZRL National Competition this year,’’ Mr Stosic said.
A third camp will be held on August 16-18, and will be used to further help those selected for the WaiCoa Bay squad.
The camps are aimed at players aged 14 and 17-years-old and those interested must be registered with a Rugby League Club within the boundaries of the Upper Central Zone, he said.
All registration must be made before March 1.
‘‘Participants must make a full commitment to attending all camps and trainings.’’
Mr Stosic added that during each camp the youngsters will receive goal setting and self- assessment, leadership and values workshops, specialised skills development, physical conditioning and training programme and nutrition injury management advice.
