Awards finalists named

South Waikato News - - NEWS/OPINION -

The first finalists in the 2013 Waikato Dairy Industry Awards have been announced after completion of preliminary judging last week.

Regional convenor Lisa Suisted says competition for the final six placings was tight among the 15 entrants in the Waikato Sharemilker/Equity Farmer of the Year and 24 entrants in the Waikato Farm Manager of the Year competitions.

‘‘They were all vying for the top six places in their category to progress to the final round of judging.’’

Mrs Suisted says the 26 Waikato Dairy Trainee of the Year entrants will have their preliminary judging next week and that will determine the dairy trainee finalists.

She says the sharemilker and farm manager finals judging will take place from February 25-28 to decide the 2013 Waikato winners.

‘‘ The preliminary judges were extremely impressed with the high calibre of entrants this year. Many of them demonstrated a huge passion for their farms and the industry, and what they have achieved to date is impressive,’’ Mrs Suisted said.

The Waikato Dairy Industry Awards Dinner will be held at Bledisloe Hall, Mystery Creek, on March 8. Tickets are $85 and available from Kyly Coombes on 07 824 6717.
