Pu­taruru pres­i­dent opens golfers’ prize­giv­ing

Pu­taruru Golf Clubs pres­i­dent Tony Edgar opened the club’s prize­giv­ing.

He con­grat­u­lated mem­bers Al­lan McCarthy and Ted Bain for bring­ing back Thurs­day twi­light golf, then passed prize giv­ing over to club cap­tain Phillip Kens­ing­ton.

Mr Kens­ing­ton handed out prizes for best com­bined teams of four net scores. The win­ning team with a score of 274 was Massy Rata, Wayne Mud­ford, Au­drey Mathis and Hocky Howard, one shot back on 275 was the team of Elaine O’Leary, Mat­tie Rhoades, Ian Worth and Mur­ray Hamil­ton. In third place on 277 were Mark Hopa, Tony Edgar, Roger Cloth­ier and Wayne McDon­ald, on a count back in fourth was team Nathan Edgar, John Mathis, Lance Hay and Tony Muller. In­di­vid­ual net scores un­der 70 were Grant Kell­son, Mike Flavell, Simon Den­holm, Alan Wal­lace, War­ren Craig and Butch Hamil­ton. Twos on the day where scored by Mark Hopa, Mur­ray Hamil­ton and Ross Jel­lard.

The 9-hole twi­light which was played last Thurs­day was won by David Hoyte with 22 points.

Coming events: The Rad Cup, Brad­shaw Cup, and Cap­tains Tro­phy.

Justin Mor­ris, Chan­tal Cassidy, Do­minic Mor­ris, Bren­dan Edgar, Eric Hill and War­wick White were named to com­pete in the first round of the Waikato Cham­pi­onship Pen­nants, to be played on Feb 17, at Mata­mata.
