SOUTH WAIKATO BIKE WISE 2013
Each South Waikato school will be given a tracking calendar template for children interested in participating in Bikewise.
This will include ideas for biking and tick boxes for keep a record of what they have done.
Lee and Taki are promoting Bikewise.
They are running a course in Tokoroa (Wednesday, February 13) and Putaruru ( Tuesday, February 12) from 4pm till 5pm.
This will include safety tips, an obstacle course and free bike check – Warren from South Wai- kato Cycles is doing this. The Putaruru event will be at Glenshea Park and Tokoroa’s will be at the Memorial Sports Grounds.
Lee and Taki are going to ride the 124km from school to school delivering fact sheets on February 18 starting in Tokoroa going to Putaruru, Okoroire ( Kuranui School) and Tirau then back to Putaruru and Tokoroa, delivering 2180 tip sheets to 17 schools.
Glynn from River Trails has agreed to have his bikes used for training at the three colleges during bikewise month.
This will include a trip to the River Trails for a ride. Dates still to be finalised
The mountain bike club will be running a six-week introduction to mountainbiking programme at Cougar Park that will include learning to ride tracks and safety tips – February 11, 18 and 25, and March 4, 11, 18. Meet at Cougar Park 6.30pm.
Bryan Samuels will be taking rides from Arapuni around the River Trails for beginners and others wanting to familiarise themselves with mountainbiking on the river trails February 12, 19, 26 and March 5. Meet at Rhubarb Cafe, Arapuni at 6pm.
Graeme Bell from the Forest Wheelers will be running road cycling for newbies, including riding in groups, safety tips and bike checklists.
February 19, 26, also March 5 and 12.
Meet at Lake Moananui car park at 5.30pm.
Ride to work week – this will be promoted to businesses in South Waikato to encourage their staff to get out of their cars and on their bikes.
Prizes for businesses and individuals taking part. From February 18 to 24.
Tikes on Trikes at Glenshea Park for under 5s. February 28 at 10.30am. This is run by Putaruru Day Care with Sport Waikato assistance.
