Pri­mary/In­ter­me­di­ate

Each South Waikato school will be given a track­ing cal­en­dar tem­plate for chil­dren in­ter­ested in par­tic­i­pat­ing in Bike­wise.

This will in­clude ideas for bik­ing and tick boxes for keep a record of what they have done.

Lee and Taki are pro­mot­ing Bike­wise.

They are run­ning a course in Toko­roa (Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 13) and Pu­taruru ( Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 12) from 4pm till 5pm.

This will in­clude safety tips, an ob­sta­cle course and free bike check – War­ren from South Wai- kato Cy­cles is do­ing this. The Pu­taruru event will be at Glen­shea Park and Toko­roa’s will be at the Me­mo­rial Sports Grounds.

Lee and Taki are go­ing to ride the 124km from school to school de­liv­er­ing fact sheets on Fe­bru­ary 18 start­ing in Toko­roa go­ing to Pu­taruru, Oko­roire ( Ku­ranui School) and Ti­rau then back to Pu­taruru and Toko­roa, de­liv­er­ing 2180 tip sheets to 17 schools.

Sec­ondary

Glynn from River Trails has agreed to have his bikes used for train­ing at the three col­leges dur­ing bike­wise month.

This will in­clude a trip to the River Trails for a ride. Dates still to be fi­nalised

Moun­tain­bik­ing

The moun­tain bike club will be run­ning a six-week in­tro­duc­tion to moun­tain­bik­ing pro­gramme at Cougar Park that will in­clude learn­ing to ride tracks and safety tips – Fe­bru­ary 11, 18 and 25, and March 4, 11, 18. Meet at Cougar Park 6.30pm.

Bryan Sa­muels will be tak­ing rides from Ara­puni around the River Trails for begin­ners and oth­ers want­ing to fa­mil­iarise them­selves with moun­tain­bik­ing on the river trails Fe­bru­ary 12, 19, 26 and March 5. Meet at Rhubarb Cafe, Ara­puni at 6pm.

Road cy­cling

Graeme Bell from the For­est Wheel­ers will be run­ning road cy­cling for new­bies, in­clud­ing rid­ing in groups, safety tips and bike check­lists.

Fe­bru­ary 19, 26, also March 5 and 12.

Meet at Lake Moananui car park at 5.30pm.

Work­place

Ride to work week – this will be pro­moted to busi­nesses in South Waikato to en­cour­age their staff to get out of their cars and on their bikes.

Prizes for busi­nesses and in­di­vid­u­als tak­ing part. From Fe­bru­ary 18 to 24.

Preschool

Tikes on Trikes at Glen­shea Park for un­der 5s. Fe­bru­ary 28 at 10.30am. This is run by Pu­taruru Day Care with Sport Waikato as­sis­tance.
