South Waikato Show Your Support – the community suicide prevention group – gathered in Tokoroa and Putaruru to join the nationwide Haka for Life, to put the spotlight on suicide prevention.

Over a thousand people throughout New Zealand gathered on Waitangi Day at 12.30pm to perform Ka Mate from Invercargill to Waitangi.

Although the nationwide haka fell shy of getting the 3264 people required to break the world record, South Waikato did extremely well with close to 150 people attending around the district.

South Waikato SYS member Lindie Smith was astounded by the turnout.

‘‘I was thrilled by the support shown from the South Waikato community, our group would like to thank everyone that turned up in Putaruru and Tokoroa as well as the Super Maori Fullas.’’
