Pedal power pro­moted

This week is Bike­wise week and the team at Project En­er­gise and Sport Waikato have taken the pedal to the metal to spread the mes­sage.

The Project En­er­gise team, Lee Fitz­patrick and Taki Morehu- Cook­son, rode to 17 schools in South Waikato.

They rode about 113km – about the same dis­tance from Toko­roa to Huntly.

Lee and Taki car­ried 2,200 tip­sheets about get­ting ac­tive, and pro­moted bike safety to the all the school chil­dren they vis­ited, from Toko­roa, to Ti­rau.

‘‘We want to en­cour­age kids to bike to school, be more ac­tive and eat bet­ter,’’ Lee said.

The duo started their ride at 6am on Mon­day morn­ing, fin­ish­ing up at 3pm later that day.

TIP SHEET STOP: Taki and Lee dropped into Te Wharekura O Te Kaokaoroa O Patetere when they rode around the district.
