A great weekend out on the links
It has been a busy week for the Putaruru Golf with twilight golf, second round matches in the Bradshaw cup, the final round of the Rad Cup.
Sunday took the cake with round one of the Prebble Cup verses Mangakino at Tokoroa and the St John Ambulance service charity tournament was played. Shelly Flintoff, St John’s Ambulance officer and club member said a field of 60 played.
On Saturday Phillip Bell won the Rad on a count back from Wayne McDonald.
The winners of their Bradshaw cup matches where Myke Flavell, Phillipa Bell, Stu Kensington and Wayne McDonald. Saturdays scramble winner with 44 points was Les Oleary.
Second with 42 points, John Mulholland, Stephen Thorby, Paul Sandilands, Ted Ward and Stu Kensington shared 3rd place honours with 40 points.
Thursday night twilight winners were in the members’ section Paul Olsen 1st, Kevin Stewart 2nd Loraine Smith 3rd. In the no-golfer section Grant Brownhill was 1st, Sid Green 2nd.
Captain Philip Kensington said the club’s 9 to 3 win in the Prebble cup was a ‘‘great result’’. Kensington also extended his ‘‘thanks’’ to the Tokoroa golf club for hosting and Mangakino for the game.
Next weekend Massy Rata, Myke Flavell, Brendan Hansen and Stu Kensington will play away in the handicap pennants competition, the club wishes them luck.
