Country music club has stayed strong over 40 years
The South Waikato Country Music Club is celebrating its 40th birthday next weekend.
The club will hold two musically themed celebrations at the Putaruru Plaza on Friday, March 22 from 7pm till 10pm, then on Saturday from 10am till 5pm. There will also be sausage sizzles and a birthday cake to be cut by foun- dation member Margaret Johnston and youngest member 6-year-old Jade O’Brien.
Club president Les Whyte described the birthday as a great achievement.
‘‘I feel proud to be president of this club that continues to go forward.
‘‘ It has been able to go this long because it’s an affordable night’s enter- tainment and a great family night out.’’
The club was founded in 1973 and has been based in Putaruru since its inception.
Over the years the club has used its singing abilities to raise funds for various community and volunteer organisations.
Their most notable past members include Patsy Rigger and her father Jack.
