Lady golfers en­joy mini scram­ble at Toko­roa

Lady golfers played a nine hole mini scram­ble on Fe­bru­ary 26, with Lor­raine Gil­bert, scor­ing a very re­spectable 23 points tak­ing the hon­ours. Jan Grange was sec­ond on count­back over Heather Cox, when they scored 19 points each. Hazel Mered­ith has two 2s, and Heather one.

There was some hot scor­ing on Tues­day in the nett LGU Medal com­pe­ti­tion, with Judy Van Geest scor­ing a nine un­der hand­i­cap 63 to beat Shirley Buck­ley and Lor­raine Gil­bert with 65 nett, and Hazel Mered­ith on 63. Su­san Goessi scored the only two of the day.

Mal­colm Buck­ley was 12 un­der his hand­i­cap when he won the vets com­pe­ti­tion on Wed­nes­day. Mal­colm scored 48 points and was closely fol­lowed by Robin Ire­land on 47 and Shane Grif­fiths on 44. Ra Pene and De­nis Du­gan shared the twos jack­pot, while Mal­colm Buck­ley and John Mapu had the long­est putts on the 9th and 18th holes.

The Pres­i­dent’s Cup was won in im­pres­sive fash­ion on Satur­day by Nathaniel Cassidy. Play­ing in an un­sea­son­ally strong southerly wind, Cassidy, on a 5 hand­i­cap, had a gross 68 for a nett 63, (9 un­der hand­i­cap). Mike Fid­dis was run­ner-up with 66 nett. This writer was also in the field and is not com­ment­ing on his score.
