Tokora cricket team in final

South Waikato News - - SPORT -

The Tokoroa men’s cricket team continued their good run of form when they demolished Pirongia in the final round of round robin games to make the Waikato Valley Zone final.

Sent into bat, Tokoroa quickly established their momentum with a 65 run opening stand between Brad King and Dean Tereu, before King was dismissed for 50. Tereu and Mac Seymour carried on the good work before Seymour holed out for 44. Looking to bat through the innings, Tereu was eventually dismissed in the 42nd over for a patient and chanceless 73.

Some cameo performances from the lower order saw Tokoroa post a challenging 275. This proved more than enough, as Tom Fergusson produced the best spell of the season to take 5 wickets while Anthony Meacham picked up two crucial wickets at the top of the order. The home team was rolled for 125, setting up the grand final for the new boys in the competition. The team will need to continue to pitch the ball up to allow it to swing and be patient with batting if they are to stand any chance against the heavy favourites.
