American pianist to perform

South Waikato News - - ENTERTAINMENT -

American pianist Melanie Lina will kick off South Waikato Music Society’s entertainment schedule with a performance at The Plaza in Putaruru.

Mrs Lina is new to this part of New Zealand but already has a South Waikato connection with her husband Hank Lina growing up in Tokoroa.

The couple make their home in Cambridge and, since moving to New Zealand, Melanie has been in great demand as a soloist and has already toured extensively.

Last year she performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at the inaugural Waikato Proms.

Mrs Lina is a classical pianist who is determined to play music that audiences will enjoy, so once again she will play some Gershwin – this time his Preludes.

Add to that Beethoven’s Waldstein sonata and Debussy’s L’isle joyeuse, and you have some of the ingredients of a beautiful afternoon of music.

The concert begins at 2.30pm.

CHANCE TO SHINE: American pianist Melanie Lina will shine in the South Waikato this week.
