Good rounds in golf competition
The beginning of the second round matches at the Putaruru Golf Club’s Presidents Cup and the monthly medal round was a good one.
The feature match last weekend was the President’s Cup match featured defending champions Terry Garnet and Russell (Spotty) McCarthy who last week showed convincing form in making it thought to round 2, after 9 holes in their match against the team consisting of TTT Trophy winner David Coleman and Bradshaw Cup winner Phillip Bell the match was all square, at the 10 McCarthy made a birdie 2 to put his team 1 up by the 14th Bell & Coleman had got back to all square, Colman parred the long par 4 15th to see them go 1 up, Bell birdied the 16th the lead increase to 2, Coleman pared the 17th closing out the match for well deserved 3 & 1 victory, on top of Bell’s team win was his individual day’s play which secured the monthly medal title which means that come the end of the season he will compete with other montly medal winners for the overall monthly medal title. The day’s best scores were: Phillip Bell 66 nett, 2nd with 68 Spotty McCarthy, 3rd equal 69 Simon Denholm & John Wood, 5th with 70 Ronnie Taylor, 6th on 71 John Barr, Brendon Edgar, and Eric Hill.
Next week’s feature match will be the match between Andrew & Adam Sadler verses Stephen Garland & Brendon Welsh.
