South Waikato District Council had approved funding to the Waikato River Trails Charitable Trust of more than $15,000.

The funding of $15,251.11 is the full amount it requested.

The funds, distributed as part of April’s Creative Communities Scheme Allocation, will aid a gateway project that is expected to cost $16,451.11.

South Waikato District Council Acting Community Development manager Cindy Kent said the artwork would be at the gateway to the Waikato River Trails.

‘‘ The artwork itself will celebrate our district, community, Waikato River, history and be a tribute to the trails and all who have been involved,’’ she told South Waikato News.

‘‘It was felt by the Grants Committee that this project filled the criteria set out under the Creative Communities Scheme.’’
