Net­ballers learn um­pir­ing skills

Toko­roa net­ballers are real­is­ing their po­ten­tial and en­joy­ing the um­pir­ing classes on Wed­nes­day nights at 7 pm.

A to­tal of 55 play­ers have at­tended the classes, and 28 have gained the Net­ball New Zealand Cen­tre The­ory Um­pir­ing Award.

Passes in­clude Neme­sis ( 5 passes), Exu­sia (5), FVHS (4), In­de­ci­sive ( 3), Ko Ta­tou ( 3), Man­gakino Hawkettes ( 2), United Force (2), Ea­gles (1), G Rok ( 1), SURF ( 1), Spar­tans Masters (5), and Pur­ple Haze (1).

All um­pires who have gained their the­ory passes will be coached about the pro­to­cols of the game, po­si­tion­ing on court and ap­pli­ca­tion of rules on court. Af­ter coach­ing th­ese um­pires will be as­sessed by Net­ball New Zealand As­ses­sors Josef Brown, Maria Te Kanawa and Heather Wil­liamson.

Um­pires who have gained their Prac­ti­cal Award are: Sam Kaitai, Christina Ogle, Nicki Cooper, Chloe Pun­ton, Te Paea Riki, Jean Teao, Tracey Mor­gan, Ann He­witt, Te Ata Ka­rauna and Lu Maea. Um­pires who gain their Prac­ti­cal Award will be given the op­por­tu­nity to start learn­ing rules at a more com­plex level to­wards their Re­gional (Zone) The­ory Award.
