Tro­phy matches take to Pu­taruru fair­way

Dur­ing the last week at the Pu­taruru Golf Club scram­ble matches were played in the Pres­i­dents Tro­phy and the nine-hole com­pe­ti­tions.

Ladies team com­peted at Mata­mata.

In the fea­ture match of the day An­drew and Adam Sadler won through against Steven Gar­land and Bren­don Welsh, in what was at the be­gin­ning a close match af­ter two holes the Sadlers were 2 up and af­ter five. Gar­land and Welch got back to all square. The Sadlers held a 1-up lead af­ter nine. For­tunes changed for Gar­land and Welsh on the sec­ond nine, though the Sadlers closed their op­po­nents out of the match to win the match on the 14th. Next weeks fea­ture match will be the match played be­tween Mat­tie Rhoades and Stephen Thorby v Myke Flavell and Bren­don Han­son.

Re­sults of Satur­days sta­ble­ford scram­ble: Phillip Bell who for the 2nd week run­ning won the day this week with 43 points, 2nd Vic­tor O’Rourke 41, 3rd John Barr and Alan Wal­lace 40, 5th Ross Jel­lard, Chris McKil­lop and Barry Bur­well 39, 8th Rob­bie Wi 38 who in his pres­i­dents cup match with­out his Part­ner Ted Bain was un­for­tu­nate not to pro­ceed fur­ther, Wi was 2 up against Ross Jel­lard and John Mul­hol­land and af­ter 12 but two against one was in the end to much for him Jel­lard and Mul­hol­land won through on the fi­nal hole.

Barry Bur­well, Dominic Mor­ris Alan Walace, John Wood and Elayne OLeary made the days only twos.

In Ladies golf on Satur­day: 1st Shelly Flintoff 38, 2nd Louise Wal­lace 38, on Tues­day round 3 of the eclec­tic net com­pe­ti­tion was played, 1st F Tay­lor 71, 2nd C Arbuckle 72, 3rd L Wal­lace on count back from 5 oth­ers, D Hunt in­cluded. 9 holers: 1st A Kens­ing­ton 40, 2nd H Putt 40, 3rd G Rob­bins. R Hoole on 3rd and R Young on 8th made the day’s only twos. Adding to a suc­cess­ful sea­son the ladies 9-hole Pen­nant team – A Kens­ing­ton, G Rob­bins, L Ben­nett, N McPher­son – played in the fi­nals at Mata­mata on Fri­day. Though they re­ceived no hon­ours on the day, they had a suc­cess­ful sea­son.
