Trophy matches take to Putaruru fairway
During the last week at the Putaruru Golf Club scramble matches were played in the Presidents Trophy and the nine-hole competitions.
Ladies team competed at Matamata.
In the feature match of the day Andrew and Adam Sadler won through against Steven Garland and Brendon Welsh, in what was at the beginning a close match after two holes the Sadlers were 2 up and after five. Garland and Welch got back to all square. The Sadlers held a 1-up lead after nine. Fortunes changed for Garland and Welsh on the second nine, though the Sadlers closed their opponents out of the match to win the match on the 14th. Next weeks feature match will be the match played between Mattie Rhoades and Stephen Thorby v Myke Flavell and Brendon Hanson.
Results of Saturdays stableford scramble: Phillip Bell who for the 2nd week running won the day this week with 43 points, 2nd Victor O’Rourke 41, 3rd John Barr and Alan Wallace 40, 5th Ross Jellard, Chris McKillop and Barry Burwell 39, 8th Robbie Wi 38 who in his presidents cup match without his Partner Ted Bain was unfortunate not to proceed further, Wi was 2 up against Ross Jellard and John Mulholland and after 12 but two against one was in the end to much for him Jellard and Mulholland won through on the final hole.
Barry Burwell, Dominic Morris Alan Walace, John Wood and Elayne OLeary made the days only twos.
In Ladies golf on Saturday: 1st Shelly Flintoff 38, 2nd Louise Wallace 38, on Tuesday round 3 of the eclectic net competition was played, 1st F Taylor 71, 2nd C Arbuckle 72, 3rd L Wallace on count back from 5 others, D Hunt included. 9 holers: 1st A Kensington 40, 2nd H Putt 40, 3rd G Robbins. R Hoole on 3rd and R Young on 8th made the day’s only twos. Adding to a successful season the ladies 9-hole Pennant team – A Kensington, G Robbins, L Bennett, N McPherson – played in the finals at Matamata on Friday. Though they received no honours on the day, they had a successful season.
