A district- wide primary and secondary schools poster competition aimed at highlighting the issue around school attendance is heating up.

The competition titled It’s Not Okay to Miss a Day, which opened at the beginning of this month and runs through to July 12, is being led by Putaruru truancy officer Billy Carter.

Mr Carter said primary schools are invited to make posters with the high schools given the challenge of a five minute movie.

‘‘It (the competition) is about really just to tell children why school attendance is so important. Because ultimately it affects them,’’ he said.

The competition is being supported by the Ministry of Education.

For more information about the poster competition you can contact Mr Carter on 027 818 7913.
