Stress accepted part of SPCA job

South Waikato News - - NEWS -

Stress becomes a huge part of my life as I deal with the sad side of what humans – as the higher species – do to their animals.

It is never pleasant to be read my pedigree, I have been told what it is, on several occasions.

More so when I am trying to help/educate someone for the betterment of their animals. Next I bring out my spoken ‘‘big stick’’ and that’s when the first try to get help for the animal hasn’t worked.

When I find I have made a difference for an owner and so on to the animal/pet it is a good feeling and it helps heaps.

It’s what keeps me going on the tough days.

So when you ring in with an issue please remember I am only one person, human too, although some may beg to differ.

As one of the smallest SPCAs with one of the largest one inspector areas to cover, I do the best I can.

Costs have gone up and these affect us too. We pay for RUC’s, diesel, petrol, tyres, power, water, food for the animals, rates, insurances, the same as you do.

Our SPCA variety store also manned by volunteers does amazing things with the kindly donated goods.

Sale of these contributions help to keep our centre running.

Any donation to help us keep the SWSPCA running is always very appreciated.

Here’s a small costing exercise for you to ponder: $15,000 would desex 176 female cats or 272 male cats or 107 medium sized male dogs or 76 medium sized female dogs.

It would keep our centre running for one and a half months in a good one.

It sounds like a lot of money but isn’t in the big scheme of things is it? As with all things once we lose something it is very hard to get it back.
