Ea­gles, THSA teams shine

Net­ball in Toko­roa on Satur­day pro­duced sev­eral games with ex­tremely close scores and ex­cel­lent top level play.

Game of the day was Sec­tion One teams Ea­gles ver­sus Toko­roa High School A. Both are play­ing skilled net­ball and have a chance of gain­ing top hon­ours. Dur­ing their game THS A raced away for a first quar­ter lead­ing score of 8-7 and half time score in front 16-12. Ea­gles were able to dig deep to gain a lead at three quar­ter time of 23-21 and kept con­trol of the game to scrape through with a win at full time of 30-29.

Joyce Daniels coach of Ea­gles was proud that all team mem­bers ac­cepted the young­sters’ chal­lenge and were able to hold on to win by one goal.

THS A play­ers to shine were Dionne Tread­away, Makaia Riki-Te Kanawa and Mere­ana Poko. Ea­gles de­fence play­ers played a con­trolled or­gan­ised game and shoot­ers Tiana Wiki and Aroha Watene played out­stand­ing net­ball. Ea­gles co-cap­tain for the day Roka Pa­hewa led her team by ex­am­ple to the fi­nal whis­tle.

A close game in Sec­tion Two was G Rok against THSOB. G Rok were able to re­strain the chal­lenge from THSOB and won 44-43.

Toko­roa In­ter­me­di­ate Year 7 Pearls had a close game against Am­is­field. The score was locked up at 5-5 and 10-10 for the first quar­ter and half time. Year 7 Pearls were able to nudge ahead at three quar­ter time 14-13 and sus­tained the lead un­til the fi­nal whis­tle 16-15.

Toko­roa In­ter­me­di­ate Year 7 Opals game against Te Kura was an­other close fin­ish. The four quar­ters of the game were goal for goal with the fi­nal re­sult.8 all.

Fu­ture Ferns (Pri­mary) con­tin­ued with grad­ing games (played be­tween Spon­sored Tour­na­ment and start of Cham­pi­onship games). Teams to gain two wins were Cen­tral Chiefs, Cargill Champs, North Fan­tails and Strath­more Sis­ters.
