Eagles, THSA teams shine
Netball in Tokoroa on Saturday produced several games with extremely close scores and excellent top level play.
Game of the day was Section One teams Eagles versus Tokoroa High School A. Both are playing skilled netball and have a chance of gaining top honours. During their game THS A raced away for a first quarter leading score of 8-7 and half time score in front 16-12. Eagles were able to dig deep to gain a lead at three quarter time of 23-21 and kept control of the game to scrape through with a win at full time of 30-29.
Joyce Daniels coach of Eagles was proud that all team members accepted the youngsters’ challenge and were able to hold on to win by one goal.
THS A players to shine were Dionne Treadaway, Makaia Riki-Te Kanawa and Mereana Poko. Eagles defence players played a controlled organised game and shooters Tiana Wiki and Aroha Watene played outstanding netball. Eagles co-captain for the day Roka Pahewa led her team by example to the final whistle.
A close game in Section Two was G Rok against THSOB. G Rok were able to restrain the challenge from THSOB and won 44-43.
Tokoroa Intermediate Year 7 Pearls had a close game against Amisfield. The score was locked up at 5-5 and 10-10 for the first quarter and half time. Year 7 Pearls were able to nudge ahead at three quarter time 14-13 and sustained the lead until the final whistle 16-15.
Tokoroa Intermediate Year 7 Opals game against Te Kura was another close finish. The four quarters of the game were goal for goal with the final result.8 all.
Future Ferns (Primary) continued with grading games (played between Sponsored Tournament and start of Championship games). Teams to gain two wins were Central Chiefs, Cargill Champs, North Fantails and Strathmore Sisters.
