Wogan bound for glory
Last week at the Putaruru Golf Club saw the name of new member Mark Wogan added to the weekly honours list Ladies competitions including Gillian Robbins winning the Beryl Garnett Match play title and among the week’s other play the semi finalists in the President’s Trophy named.
In the Saturday men’s stableford scramble Wogan played his 7th full round and with what by appearances will not be his last honours, on the day won on count back from Mark Hopa scoring 41pts, 3rd Peter Hills 40, 4th Tony Muller 39, 5th equal Stan Wilson, John Muhol- land, Wayne Mudford and Stephen Thorby 38, Thorby who on the day in the Presidents Trophy partnered by Matthew Rhohdes also won through to the semi finals, beating Brendon Hansen and Myke Flavell; in what was in the early stages a close contest. Twice in the early stages of the back 9 they extended the lead to 2 only to find themselves after 14 back to 1up, as a team though they found another gear winning 15 and 16 to close out the match on the 16th. In their semi final they will face off against Tali Mulafia and Peter Hills the other semi to be contested next Saturday will be played between John Barr and Ted Ward versus Andrew and Adam Sadler.
In ladies golf, Cushla Arbuckle showed that wet, heavy conditions against predictions are reasons for good scores, her 26 putts won her the Div 1 putting button her net 65 won her the monthly medal, 2nd Shelly Flintoff 73, 3rd Denise Hunt. Bronze A, 1st C Jones 75, 2nd H Edgar (also Div 2 putting button 25 winner 25) 76, 3rd R Young 78. Bronze B. 1st S Wood 79, 2nd N Fisher 83, 3rd B Buckeridge 86. 9 hole Ladies 1st H Putt 42, 2nd A Kensington 42, 3rd S Urban 45
