Wo­gan bound for glory

Last week at the Pu­taruru Golf Club saw the name of new mem­ber Mark Wo­gan added to the weekly hon­ours list Ladies com­pe­ti­tions in­clud­ing Gil­lian Rob­bins win­ning the Beryl Gar­nett Match play ti­tle and among the week’s other play the semi fi­nal­ists in the Pres­i­dent’s Tro­phy named.

In the Satur­day men’s sta­ble­ford scram­ble Wo­gan played his 7th full round and with what by ap­pear­ances will not be his last hon­ours, on the day won on count back from Mark Hopa scor­ing 41pts, 3rd Peter Hills 40, 4th Tony Muller 39, 5th equal Stan Wil­son, John Muhol- land, Wayne Mudford and Stephen Thorby 38, Thorby who on the day in the Pres­i­dents Tro­phy part­nered by Matthew Rho­hdes also won through to the semi fi­nals, beat­ing Bren­don Hansen and Myke Flavell; in what was in the early stages a close con­test. Twice in the early stages of the back 9 they ex­tended the lead to 2 only to find them­selves af­ter 14 back to 1up, as a team though they found an­other gear win­ning 15 and 16 to close out the match on the 16th. In their semi fi­nal they will face off against Tali Mu­lafia and Peter Hills the other semi to be con­tested next Satur­day will be played be­tween John Barr and Ted Ward ver­sus An­drew and Adam Sadler.

In ladies golf, Cushla Arbuckle showed that wet, heavy con­di­tions against pre­dic­tions are rea­sons for good scores, her 26 putts won her the Div 1 putting but­ton her net 65 won her the monthly medal, 2nd Shelly Flintoff 73, 3rd Denise Hunt. Bronze A, 1st C Jones 75, 2nd H Edgar (also Div 2 putting but­ton 25 win­ner 25) 76, 3rd R Young 78.
