Vets turn out for an enjoyable day
Thirty Vets faced the starter last Wednesday on a lovely fine day for an enjoyable day’s golfing. Barry Preece, narrowly won the day with 39 points. One point behind were Ken Ramsay and Piki Daniels, followed by Bruce Nairn, Ra Pene and Ian Christie on 37 points. The three 2s were scored by Malcolm Buckley, John Loye, and Bruce Nairn, who also had the longest putt on the 9th. Susan Goessi had the longest putt on the 18th.
Saturday provided perfect winter conditions for golf even though the temperature didn’t rise above 9 degrees. The rain started about three minutes after the last players walked off the course. The Budge Trophy, was played on stableford as a pairs event, with the best individual score from each pair, on each hole counting towards the total. Jane Boreham and Jon Welch combined well to collect the trophy narrowly with 47 points. On 46 were Henry Skelton and Mike Fiddis, followed by Wayne Hill and Gordon Fuller, and Suki Rea and Conwell Duggan with 45. Henry Skelton scored the only 2 of the day on the 5th.
Next Saturday’s competition will be interesting as it is a 6-club event. Players are only permitted to take and use 6 clubs on the day instead of up to the allowable 14. See you all on the tee next week.
