Lots happening with winter sports rolling
Winter is certainly upon us, winter sports are all go and isn’t it great playing rugby, league and football on wet grounds! Not so good for the uniform washers.
Sunday was the South Waikato District Honouring Volunteers function at the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre. It was wonderful hearing about all the awesome volunteers out there helping out with sport in the district – keep up the good work, we couldn’t do it without you.
Waikato Pistons Visit – June 22:
On Saturday the Waikato Pistons basketball team is visiting the South Waikato Sport and Events Centre to hold a community coaching session and shooting session. This is a free event for all children, coaches and parents.
We would love to see you so come on along and take part, or just watch some of our wonderful sports people in action.
Noon-2.30pm – Stretch/recover and shooting session.
12.30-2pm – Community Coaching Session

Volunteers Week: Volunteer Awareness Week is this week and Sport Waikato wishes to thank the many volunteers that help local sport and recreation function in the South Waikato district.
Sport Waikato is calling sport volunteers involved in local sport our Sport Makers. We’re very thankful for the time, effort and patience they give to sport and recreational opportunities in the greater Waikato region.
We are launching a Sport Maker recognition campaign in July to highlight individuals from the uniform washers to coaches. These community people need to be recognised and we’ve developed a plan on how to do this throughout the year. Putaruru junior badminton: Tuesdays from 6.30pm, 8 to 14-year-olds, $40 a child or $2 a night. Rackets available. Contact Vaine 883 3252 for further details. Sportsground website: Do you want more from your website? Sportsground along with Sport Waikato are running free website workshops. These are excellent workshops highlighting the importance of a good website and the tools that can help you market and promote your sports club. Workshops are going to held in Taupo on July 23 at 5.30pm, Cambridge on August 5 at 5.30pm and in Matamata on August 6 at 5.30pm.
