Teenage driv­ers tar­geted

A col­lec­tive ap­proach has been taken with the or­gan­i­sa­tion of the Teen Driver Expo which is be­ing held this week.

The expo be­gan yes­ter­day at the South Waikato Sports and Events Cen­tre and runs un­til to­mor­row tar­get­ing Toko­roa and For­est View High Schools, and Pu­taruru Col­lege, and ex­te­rior ed­u­ca­tion fa­cil­i­ties of the Teen Par­ent­ing Unit.

This year’s theme is aimed at driver in­ex­pe­ri­ence and ‘‘The Fa­tal Five’’ which in­cludes al­co­hol, speed, re­straints, danger­ous/high risk driv­ers and danger­ous driv­ing.

Work­shop ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude a road safety quiz, com­puter driv­ing haz­ard iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, static re­vers­ing haz­ard iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, fa­tal vi­sion gog­gles, Stu­dents Against Driv­ing Drunk, drug and al­co­hol test­ing and Fire and St Johns Paramedics.

Those at­tend­ing will also be spo­ken to by guest speak­ers about their in­volve­ment in fa­tal mo­tor ve­hi­cle crashes.

The pro­ject is a joint work­ing part­ner­ship with Po­lice South Waikato Dis­trict Coun­cil.
