Auction exceeds all expectations
When the school appealed to the rural community to help fundraise to seal its sports court, Te Waotu School principal Bruce Darroch didn’t expect the money raised to not only seal the court but also enable extra resources for the students. A stunned Mr Darroch was truly touched by the community’s generosity at the school’s annual auction fundraiser.
Last year the school raised just over $18,000 at the auction, this year a whopping $26,500 was made.
‘‘To raise this sort of money is amazing,’’ Mr Darroch said.
‘‘This is a true example of the big hearts in the rural community.’’
Mr Darroch paid tribute to the Simpson and Ranger families who organised the day’s events, and thanked all the businesses who donated goods to the auction and the community who turned out to support it.
The school also held its annual calf club day before the auction.
