Tokoroa NRL players called up
Two of Tokoroa’s finest sportsmen, Zane Tetavano and Isaac John, have been selected to play for the Cook Islands Rugby League World Cup.
The talented pair will play their first game for the 24-man side on October 30 against the United States.
The islands have produced some of the game’s biggest names, including former Kiwi captain John Whittaker and the legendary Kevin Iro. Many more are now forging a path through the NRL compe- tition including John and Tetavano.
Tetavano, 23, wrapped up 11 wins playing for the Newcastle Knights this year. Meanwhile John, 24, played a vital role in the 12 matches Penrith Panthers won this year.
Both of Cook Islands descent, the duo are rapt to be playing in their first Rugby League World Cup for the small nation.
Cook Islands are in Group D, where only one team can advance, along with hosts Wales and the US.
