Toko­roa NRL play­ers called up

Two of Toko­roa’s finest sports­men, Zane Te­ta­vano and Isaac John, have been se­lected to play for the Cook Is­lands Rugby League World Cup.

The ta­lented pair will play their first game for the 24-man side on Oc­to­ber 30 against the United States.

The is­lands have pro­duced some of the game’s big­gest names, in­clud­ing for­mer Kiwi cap­tain John Whit­taker and the leg­endary Kevin Iro. Many more are now forg­ing a path through the NRL compe- tition in­clud­ing John and Te­ta­vano.

Te­ta­vano, 23, wrapped up 11 wins play­ing for the New­cas­tle Knights this year. Mean­while John, 24, played a vi­tal role in the 12 matches Pen­rith Pan­thers won this year.

Both of Cook Is­lands de­scent, the duo are rapt to be play­ing in their first Rugby League World Cup for the small na­tion.

Cook Is­lands are in Group D, where only one team can ad­vance, along with hosts Wales and the US.
