Bridges to be funded
South Waikato District Council has agreed to create a depreciation reserve to fund bridges as part of the Long Term Plan process. This is the one part of the roading activity that should have a depreciation reserve for future replacements but doesn’t. Deputy chief executive Ben Smit said bridge replacements were infrequent but expensive. The $1.5 million replacement of the Horahora bridge, planned for
2018/19 is an example of this. Next week will be the last edition on the South Waikato News for the 2013 year. The paper will be back on January 8, 2014.
