was judged by social media users with Tokoroa beating second place by more than 500 votes.
Mackenzie District mayor Claire Barlow wrote to South Waikato Mayor Neil Sinclair in congratulations saying: ‘‘We tried very hard to come out tops but your locals did an amazing job of spreading the word via Facebook so we have had to settle for second place.
‘‘I have to say that you have some very loyal and enthusiastic locals in Tokoroa and it is heartening to see.’’

Because everyone gets on with everyone, it doesn’t matter what culture you are from. In other towns different ethnic groups hang out with each other but here we all mingle together. proud. It is always great to hear compliments from other mayors about something in my own district. It makes me proud of our town, our community and our council and what we achieve when we pull together.’’
