Season starts

Netballers turn out

South Waikato News - - SPORT -

The Memorial Sportsground came alive on Saturday with hundreds of netballers starting their 2014 season.

The first day’s games enabled coaches to work out the best positions for their players and to find out the ability of any new players in their teams.

Several new senior club teams have entered the competition including Putaruru College. Teams to gain two wins on Saturday were United Force, Nemesis, Putaruru College A, Panthers, Forest View High School A, Mangakino Hawkettes, Tokoroa Intermediate Year 8 Steelers, Tokoroa Intermediate Year 7 Pearls and Tokoroa Intermediate Year 8 Magic.

Primary netball will start this Saturday at noon when 20 primary teams will play in their first competition games of grading.

North School will have five teams entered and it is great to have Bishop Edward Gaines School return to Saturday netball.

All forms, draws and information are on the Tokoroa Netball Centre website: www.sportsground .co.nz/tokoroanetball.

Most teams have shown an interest in wanting to learn more about umpiring rules and techniques. Umpires class will restart on April 14 from 7pm-8pm in the netball pavilion.

Most teams are keen for all members of their team to be up-to-date with application of rules so that their own playing on court is error free.

Fun Ferns will start on Friday, May 9, at 5pm at the Sports and Event Centre and run for seven weeks.

Registration forms are on the Tokoroa website.
