Determination wins finals spot

In an outstanding show of courage, the Tokoroa Intermediate boys’ touch team made the final of the Waikato Interschool Touch Tournament.

With scores even at 4-all, the game against Peachgrove Intermediate was sent into a drop-off where the opposition crossed over the line for the winning try.

But despite the loss, coaches Hamish Allan and AJ Purnell were happy with the boys’ efforts.

‘‘The boys know that a big performance is always required when attending Waikato tournaments, which is the basis of the motivation,’’ Allan said.

‘‘Regardless of who we faced, we went out there to play ‘our’ game.’’

The boys were able to learn a lot in a short time thanks to Purnell, the local ‘go to guy’ for touch, Allan said.

‘‘‘Our three year 8 boys led the way for our other nine year 7 boys, so to make the final shows true talent, determination and flair.’’
