South Waikato News - - RURAL DELIVERY -

A community effort to eradicate pests as well as enjoy the Easter holiday went off with a bang.

A total of 996 pests were caught in 48 hours and included magpies, rabbits, hares, possums and carp.

Organiser Josh Trueman said the event was to get children outdoors.

‘‘It gets the kids off the couch, off the playstation and into the outdoors to teach them bush techniques, how to look after our environment that way preserving it for future generations,’’ he said.

Proceeds went to the local Maori Wardens.
