Top team at real estate office

Competing against ‘‘big wigs’’ in Auckland has been no barrier to success for Harveys Tokoroa.

The small real estate branch won Top Team Award out of the country’s 90 LJ Hooker/Harveys offices.

The national award is presented to the most productive team, measured on the number of listings, sales and general office production.

The award was a welcome surprise for the office that caters to the second most ‘‘ affordable’’ location in New Zealand behind Kawerau.

Salesman Ben Johnson said the secret to the office’s success is its understanding of what clients want.

‘‘Just being able to relate to all types of people and being able to listen and understand what their needs are.

‘‘One thing they [clients] hate is when an agent gives them the wrong info, it plays a big part.’’

The tight-knit office had its fair share of individual success at the awards held on June 27.

Johnson took out second place in the Top Exclusives Listers with Barb McMullen coming in at fifth while Charlene Turia was placed seventh in the Top Property Investment Managers category.

The team won a similar award in 2011-2012 but Johnson said there were no way near as many offices competing back then.
