Sport exchange ignites students’ inner passion
Very few schools still have overnight sports exchanges but it is always a highlight for Forest View High School students.
The school hosted its annual Sports Exchange with Waitara High School from Taranaki on June 29 and 30.
Over 70 students from each school were involved in the exchange that started with a warm but challenging powhiri on the Sunday.
With just two days it was straight into the games. Hockey, boys football and girls and boys basketball were played on the Sunday.
The weather packed in on the Monday as the girls football, the A netball and the 1st XV rugby game were being played. The loud and challenging hakas performed by both 1st XVs showed the spirit of the exchange and a close game followed.
Forest View won all games except the netball which was a 16 all draw.
A big thanks goes out to members of the school’s community who billeted all of the guests and supported the exchange.
Players of the day for FV as chosen by Waitara High School were:
Hockey – Ethan MorrisStevens, Boys Basketball – Campbell Evans, Girls Basketball and Netball – Danni-Jane Umaki, Boys Football – Trevor Hill, Girls Football – Sarah Coffin and Rugby – Karly Karauna.
Friendly rivals: Forest View matched up strongly against Waitara in mixed hockey.
