Cousins sink the win in Vegas

Defeat was not on the minds of Camellia Cook and Daniel Wilkinson during an international pool tournament.

The 16-year-old cousins pursued the VNEA Junior International 8 Ball Championships in Las Vegas for the second time.

After coming fifth in 2010, the pair were older, better and ready to win.

Daniel smashed the competition out of the water and was placed first in the singles, pairs and in the New Zealand team.

‘‘It felt good, I was confident,’’ he said.

Camellia proudly took second place in the under- 17 event behind the titleholder.

It may not have been her ideal result but she said her opponent was someone to aspire to.

While Daniel is eager to defend his title, Camellia will improve her game to take out first place next time.

‘‘I was beaten by the same player from last time, so I will practise more,’’ she said.

The pair were selected based on their rankings which they gained by competing in a team on a weekly basis.

Daniel’s ultimate goal is to beat his uncle Phyl Wilkinson in a competitive tournament.
