Whether he is on the road, track or in a club, you’re bound to see Jim McMurray on a bike.

The New Zealand champion cyclist couldn’t help but get his spandex on in Tokoroa Club on Friday night, albeit for a good cause.

McMurray cycled in front of a pumped crowd who were betting on his max speed and time taken to complete 30km.

The event was a fundraiser for his upcoming trip to Slovenia where he will compete in the World Championships.

The keen cyclist managed to clock a maximum speed of 98.5kmh and completed the course in 27m 19s with an aver- age speed of 65.7kmh.

He said everyone who heads off to events such as the one in August wants funding.

‘‘I’m at least going to sweat for 30 minutes.’’

The fundraiser brought in close to $200 and McMurray said he had had huge support from other organisations such as SuperSports Trust which granted him $2000.

Meanwhile his loyal club, Forestland Wheelers, have contributed $ 1000 to boost his travel kitty.
