Poor turnout again

South Waikato News - - SPORTS / TE PAPA HAKINKINA - By JON WELCH

The first round of two for the Stroke Play Championships was held in cold fine conditions on Saturday. Unfortunately, there was the usual poor turnout from club members participating on the Saturday club day. Gross scores only count in this competition, with handicaps only used to define which division players compete in. Gavin Cortesi leads the Senior division by 1 from President Ian Christie, followed by Jim Cortesi and Bradley Hayes-Lennon. Hamilton Sheck has a handy lead over Katai Oreke, Malcolm Buckley and Henry Skelton in the Intermediate division, and Lionel Grylls has a 1 shot lead over Alan Harris in the Junior section. Dave Ahuriri, is leading the Junior B divison from Jon Welch and Alan Blair. The second and final round will be played Saturday. The Hotel Cup was played for on Saturday as well, and was won by Hamilton Sheck with 66 nett, followed by Ian Christie with 68. There will be a haggle for those members not involved in the stroke play events on Saturday.
