A hunt is on for the Waikato’s top sportspeople and officials in all corners of the district. Nominations are open for the 2014 Waikato District Sports Awards. Sport Waikato community sport manager Roseanne Murray said it was up to the community to make sure deserving sportspeople were acknowledged. ‘‘These awards are an opportunity for our people to recognise their team-mates, friends and family for what they’ve achieved throughout the year. Nominations are open until October 10 so there’s plenty of time and I really encourage the community to think about those who deserve recognition and take the time to make a nomination,’’ Murray said. Changes to the way community pharmacies dispense medication is hoped to alleviate financial pressures on the Waikato District Health Board. Over the past two years the health board has incremented changes in the funding structure to all 76 community pharmacies in Waikato. The scheme now funds based on the level of care and support a patient needs. The purposes of the changes were to identify which patients were either not taking prescribed medications or cherry picking which medications they would and would not have filled. Despite the funding model showing clear savings a review of the national system was ranked 8 out of 10 by Deloitte for its organisational complexity.
