Voting focus encouraged

South Waikato News - - OPINION -

Heart disease is New Zealand’s single biggest killer which currently sees 90,000 years of life lost each year to disability or premature death. It’s time for us to act. In the lead-up to the election, the Heart Foundation is challenging our politicians to make stopping heart disease a priority.

Our Stop the Heartbreak (STHB) heart health manifesto calls for urgent action on two key initiatives – a food and nutrition plan for children, and a cardiovascular disease (CVD) plan to reduce the burden of heart disease now.

Annually 463 Kiwis die from heart disease in Waikato and nationally a staggering 31 per cent of our children are overweight or obese.

It’s time for our political parties to address what must be done to save lives and ensure our children have a bright future, free of heart disease and ill health.

Make sure the people you choose to represent you in Parliament are up to the heart health challenge – prepared to do something about heart disease now and for the future.
