Party vote

South Waikato News - - OPINION -

Many people don’t realise the significance and importance of how they cast their party vote.

Proportional representation is all about giving smaller parties a chance to become part of our parliamentary system.

The reason the two main parties court the support of smaller parties is because they need them as coalition partners to get their policies through.

It’s good to keep in mind that the party vote should go to whichever party would make the best coalition partner.

Often this will mean the party vote will, and indeed should, be different from the electorate vote. Pat Gregory
