Call for more entries to the Waikato dairy industry awar
South Waikato farmers are being urged to put their hands up for the 2015 Waikato Dairy Industry Awards.
Organisers are encouraging dairy farmers who are keen to progress their career in the industry, to enter this year’s awards.
Regional managers Michelle and Andrew McPherson said entries in the region’s Sharemilker/ Equity Farmer of the Year, Farm Manager of the Year and Dairy Trainee of the Year competitions are being accepted online at www.dairyindustryawards.co.nz.
‘‘We held a really successful launch event at AgResearch’s Tokanui Research Farm last month and there seemed to be a lot of interest in entering the awards, but time is running out.’’
Michelle said 34 entries had been received by November 10, including five entries in the sharemilker/ equity farmer contest, 11 in the farm manager contest and 18 in the dairy trainee competition.
‘‘ We really need more entrants in the sharemilker competition. I can’t reiterate enough how valuable entering the awards can be and the opportunities that may open for people wanting to step up or expand.’’
Michelle said meeting the other entrants, sponsors and organisers also makes entering worthwhile.
‘‘ Entries are closing earlier this year, so it’s important that people act quickly if they are interested in entering one of the competitions.’’
Entries close on November 30.
She said all entrants would receive complimentary tickets to the Waikato Regional Dairy Industry Awards dinner at the Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton on March 6.
The Awards are supported by national sponsors Westpac, DairyNZ, Ecolab, Federated Farmers, Fonterra, Honda Motorcycles NZ, LIC, Meridian Energy, Ravensdown, RD1 and Triplejump, along with industry partner Primary ITO.
