Taniwha secures funding
The Taniwha walking and cycling event which brought in more than $200,000 to the district last year has secured $50,000 of ratepayers’ money over the next five years. The Total Sport event was established in 2011 and has attracted more than 800 entrants each year. The economic benefits proved it was a worthy investment, councillor Jeff Gash said. ‘‘I think for $10,000, that’s a pretty healthy return.’’ The money will come from the Signature Event concept which is in the 2012-2022 Long Term Plan. The event has previously received $45,000 from ratepayers.
