Rugby ses­sions start as young as 2 years

As if Toko­roa doesn’t pro­duce enough rugby tal­ent al­ready, devel­op­ment is start­ing even ear­lier.

Rug­by­tots, New Zealand’s first rugby spe­cific play pro­gramme for 2 to 7-year-olds, is now of­fer­ing ses­sions in Toko­roa.

The weekly ses­sions teach chil­dren all as­pects of rugby in­clud­ing run­ning with a ball, catch­ing, kick­ing and scor­ing a try.

Rug­by­tots Toko­roa owner and coach Nico Oosthuizen said it is a great way to in­tro­duce the sport to a younger age group.

Lo­cal Toko­roa res­i­dent and Souther United Rugby Foot­ball club player Henry Young has stepped up as lead coach.
