Mini riders rip it up

South Waikato News - - MOTORING - By CAITLIN WALLACE

Little engines were all revved up for the Waikato Mini X Champs held in Tokoroa on Sunday.

The second annual event brought in more than 50 riders, some as young as 4. Event steward Edwina Wooderson said entrants came from as far as Wellington, Gisborne and Whangarei.

While its only a new ‘‘fun’’ competition it’s been proven a success, she said.

‘‘It went pretty well, a lot of parents enjoyed it because there are not many events out there like this.’’

The day ended with a prizegiving for winners as well as participation plates for each rider. And to add to the fun, the children enjoyed a lolly scramble thrown out by a ‘‘big chicken’’ on a bike.

With plans to host it again, Wooderson said the South Waikato Motorcycle Club committee will discuss holding final races under lights.

There’s plenty of air as this rider nears the finish line.

These little riders get off to a roaring start before tearing up the track.

It was smooth sailing around the track for this rider.

Determination isn’t hard to find as racers aim to get around as

fast as they can.
