Dodgy airbags in the millions

South Waikato News - - MOTORING -

Takata finally bowed to US government pressure and has agreed to recall an extra 17 million cars in the US market, bringing the total recall to 33.8 million vehicles – the biggest recall of all time.

It’s going to take several years for Takata and other airbag manufacturers to build enough replacements.

Imagine telling millions of consumers their car has an airbag that could kill them, and could they please come back in another year or so to get it fixed?

Also, no-one knows what’s causing these airbags to fail, so how are we to know the new ones are actually safe?

Takata said they are but it said that about the old ones.
